 HISTORYSince 2005, the BCI has consisted of a collaborative global process, involving a wide range of stakeholders along the cotton value chain from farmers to retailers and brands, as well as civil society and international organsiations. The founding members are adidas, Gap Inc., H&M, ICCO, IFAP, IFC, IKEA, Organic Exchange, Oxfam, PAN UK, and WWF. Until July 2009, BCI has been governed by a Steering Committee of global organisations including producer organisations, trade & industry organisations, civil society, and international institutions. Since July 2009, the BCI is a membership based association under Swiss law. The work of the BCI during its design phase (2007-09) has been subject of an external evaluation carried out at the end of 2009.
